Fascia and Soffit Repair

Fascia and soffit repair is not always an easy fix. If you notice water damage on your soffits or your fascia boards, this can mean there are bigger issues and can be a sign it’s time for a full roof replacement. These repairs are not as easy as they may seem and can be costly because of the amount of time the repair takes.

The End Could Be The Beginning

Water damage at the edges of your roof, near or around your soffit overhang, can mean your roofing system has failed. Remember, just because the water damage is there, doesn’t mean that is where the water came from. Water likes to travel. If your roofing shingles are failing, they could be allowing water intrusion to soak through the shingles. This water can travel all the way down the plywood or rafters to the soffit edges causing the damage.

Why is the Soffit Important

The soffit overhang is not only aesthetically pleasing, but it provides many purposes such as shading parts of your siding, keeping rain water from flooding your foundation, protecting rafters and providing ventilation to your attic space.

What is Fascia

Fascia boards provide a finished look to your roofing system and help protect the barge rafter ends from water damage. It is also where your gutters are attached. There are some cases where you may just need fascia board replacement because of minor damage caused by gutters, but it’s always wise to have a contractor or roofer inspect the area to make sure there are not any bigger issues related to your roofing system.

Keep Gutters Free of Debris and Clogs

Gutter systems offer a lot of protection for your home. They protect your roofing system and crawl space from water intrusion. Overflowing and clogged gutters will force water to run into your home that can cause mold and damage to your roof, siding and foundation.

Help Prevent Future Issues

Annual maintenance is key to keeping your home protected. To help prevent issues with your soffits and fascia, make sure your roofing system is solid, free of leaks or other issues. It’s also important to make sure any wood on the exterior is adequately protected with paint, caulking or sealant. And of course, staying on top of any issues is key to making sure your roofing system will protect your home for as long as possible.
